Blues n Brews

One of my absolute favorite events in Cumberland County is Blues n’ Brews.  The  event features some of the best regional bands, and the opportunity to sample beers from around North Carolina.  I had attended for 3 years, when it had been at the Campbellton Landing.   While it reminded me of a festival I would have attended in college, it was a great family environment. We brought our kids,  who were probably 5 and 6 the first year we went. They had activities for the kids throughout the day. It was great.  Blues ‘n Brews moved to Festival Park in the heart of  downtown last year. I didn’t attend, but I understand it was a great location. It is routinely held the last weekend in May or the first weekend in June. For more:  http://www.cfrt.org/bluesnbrews.php

31 Days of Glory

We are in the final days of 31 Days of Glory, a month-long celebration that honors members of the military, veterans and their families.  Many cool events happened throughout the month, but two of my favorites are and exhibit of photos and stories by Vietnam Veterans at the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex; and Field of Honor - a field of thousands of flags, and each honors a member of the military.  For all events that happened check out 31daysofglory.com

The Washington Post picked up on the story on Thursday, which is very cool!  http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/may/21/31-days-of-glory/

Also, a Raleigh TV station came down and did a very moving peice on Field of Honor - they interviewed someone who purchased a memorial flag and some veterans about what the military means to them.   http://www.wral.com/lifestyles/travel/video/5177753/
